Community Planting Day

On 02/08/2025, cohort five organized an event in culmination of months of site preparation and analysis that gathered over 70 community members to help kickstart the Puente Hills Test Plot. The event was a success, in which we planted over 300 plants separated into 6 different plots.

Plot 1 Thematic Urban Wild: The focus of this plot was centered on a more creative and artistic side rather than having a strict plant community, however the main focus was still preserved; native plant restoration. We used plants such as the Palmer’s Indian Mallow, Moonshine Yarrow, and Theodore Payne California Buckwheat to contrast the less colorful California natives such as the Pigeon Point Coyote Brush and Dana Point Buckwheat. Thematic Urban Wild helps bring color to the overall site with the rest of the plot, in their own respective, being uniform in color.

Plot 3 Chapparal
