07/26/2025- Cohort 7 Weeding Day

Today on July 26, we went to our test plot to learn how to pull weeds. We noticed that the dry soil might create a harder challenge to pull the full root of the weed. In order to resolve this issue, we spent a minute drowning the weed in water to loosen up the soil. The equipment we gathered was a hori hori, hand shovel, and at least one glove. To pull out the weed correctly, the first step consisted of grabbing the stem and using the hori hori to break the dirt surrounding the root. Then you find the end of the root and carefully try to pull out as much weed you can in full. The act of pulling weeds was pretty tiring because the hot sun was glaring at me while the soil was not cooperating. Although, there were definitely a few challenges through this task, I had a good time experiencing the more productive and hardworking aspect of this program.
