04/05/2025-Cohort 6 Weeding Day!
Today, Cohort 6 gathered at Test Plot for our biweekly watering and weeding session. As we watered, we noticed an increase in weeds thriving alongside our planted natives. At times, it was challenging to distinguish between our young native plants and the fast-growing weeds. Fortunately, since it is still spring, tools like the Hori Hori Garden knife made the task of weeding much easier. The soft soil also worked in our favor, allowing us to pull weeds out completely, roots and all. We’ve also mastered watering all plots within the allocated time. We try to water as much as we can early in the mornings as we know it will get hotter in the late afternoon.
Despite the challenge, it was exciting to see our baby native plants continuing to establish themselves and thrive with our consistent care. I am excited to see the progress our test plot will go through as we continue to maintain it. I really look forward to the blooming of the Milkweed and the butterflies that will gather around it in the upcoming months.
