My name is Emilio Sanchez and I’m a first-year at UC Davis. In my zine I learned about the lifecycle of Sunset Manzanita (Arctostaphylos Sunset). The seeds sprout after winter rains and grow into a shrub with strong green leaves. In late winter and spring, pink bell-shaped flowers bloom. Bees and hummingbirds visit the flowers to help pollinate them. When summer gets hot and dry, the plant slows down to save water, but it stays alive. After pollination, the flowers turn into small red fruits with seeds inside, ready to start the cycle again.
